Professional wrestling was life changing for Mystik. She never really watched it growing up, and didn't having any big wrestling fans in her family. But one of her friends really enjoyed wrestling.
"He watched tapes and was always playing wrestling video games," she says, remembering those times fondly. "Next thing I knew, I was hooked."
Mystik, along with a crew of crew of friends, would often get together to play video games and watch WWE television shows like Raw or Smackdown. During those sessions, Mystik says she studied the moves and practiced using them on her friends.
"It was a blast, but for most of my friends it was just a phase," she says.
For Mystik, however, the experience of wrestling was a lot more serious.
"For me it became an addiction," she says. "I found myself wanting to learn more... to wrestle more. I knew that I needed more from life, so I decided that I was going to take it to the next step and train to be a pro wrestler."
That might sound like a great story, but Mystik says it was only the beginning of her life-changing foray into professional wrestling. In 2004, she moved to Mound, Minnesota and started training at the WWA Wrestling School in Minneapolis.
"I trained for a full year, working one show a month at a local Legion," she says. "After that, I trained for six months with MPW in Minneapolis."
During this time, Mystik was fortunate to work for legendary trainer and promoter Eddie Sharkey. She also gained experience with promotions like NSE, Steel Domain, 3XW, RUSH, NAW, and PMW.
Just as Mystik's professional wrestling career was getting on track, she had setback that might have completely derailed the grappling aspirations of other competitors.
"I fractured my C-1 vertebra in my neck during practice," she says. "I was down and out. I hated being out."
Undaunted, Mystik persevered and remained active in professional wrestling in other ways.
"I announced and managed a couple shows just to stay involved," she says. "I was excited to get back in the ring. After working hard to rebuild my neck, I was able to get back in the ring within seven months. It was sore for awhile, but I am 100 percent today."
After her return to wrestling, Mystik started working for Rock n Roll Wrestling, which is her primary promotion, putting on shows through seven mid-west states. Her recent travels have also seen her working for promotions run by such notables as Sheik Adnan El Kaissie and Fireman Ron. She has also worked for POWW.
"I hope that all my hard work will pay off and I will get the chance to strut my stuff in the big spotlight," she says with optimism. "As long as I keep focused and work hard."
